Dear Friends,

Over nine month ago Russia started unprecedented aggression against Ukraine. Among thousands of people who lost their homes and had to flee were also Ukrainian sport climbers. Many of them settled in Poland and are inneed of financial support.Accordingly, the Polish Mountaineering Association launched the PZA4UAaction. Itsaim is to help more than 30 young sport climbers to continue living and training in Poland. They are all away fromtheirhomes, familiesandfriends.

Up tonow,thankstothehelpoftheclimbingcommunity,wehavebeenableto:

  • Organise accommodation for more than 30 climbers from Ukraine.
  • Carry out a survey among the athletes, thanks to which the Polish Mountaineering Association obtained important information regarding the needs of our guests.
  • Provide ad hoc aid to those in the most difficult situation.
  • Provide opportunities to train at selected climbing venues throughout Poland.
  • Enable Ukrainian athletes to compete on equal terms with Polish climbers in all national competitions organised by the Polish Mountaineering Association.
  • Provide selfless care of professional coaches.
  • To finance the participation of Ukrainian athletes in the European Junior Cup in Imst and the European Cup in Innsbruck, the Continental Youth Championships in Augsburg, the European Youth Cup in Mezzolombardo and the Youth World Championships Dallas.
  • Provide emergency equipment assistance.
  • Provide basic medical assistance.
Thanks to the PZA4UA action and the help of selected climbing facilities such as Skarpa Bytom, as well as their determination and motivation, these young athletes are winning medals in international competitions:
  • 22-31.08.2022 Youth World Championships Dallas – 1st place Kseniia Horielova, 2nd place Polina Khalkevych, 2nd place Hryhorii Ilczyszyn
  • 29.07 European Youth Cup in Mezzolombardo – 1st place Kseniia Horielova, 2nd place Oksana Burova, 3rd place Daria Tkachova

Helping climbers is possible thanks to the involvement of the Polish Mountaineering Association's own funds. We believe that this is an action in which the other mountaineering or climbing unions should also get involved. It is the duty of the climbing community to provide help and solidarity with the climbers from Ukraine.

How can your Federation get involved in the action?

First of all, we would like to ask for financial support for the action itself. Currently, it is financed from the funds of the Polish Mountaineering Association. Funds are needed not only for the participation in the competition itself, but also to cover the costs of the athletes' stay in selected climbing centres in Poland and for their systematic training, which was interrupted by the war. It is enough to check on their sporting results in recent months. They fight in competitions, train constantly and often reach the podium, even though their families and friends are far away and their hometowns will never be the same again.

To support the PZA4UA campaign, you can make a direct transfer to Polish Mountaineering Association bank account, dedicated toPZA4UA action.

The second way is to support the fundraising, we are organising through portal the zrzutka.pl Every donation is a chance for these young climbers to go to the next international competition.

The third option is to help promote the campaign and reach the widest possible audience. The more people who learn about it, the greater the chance of further support for the Ukrainian athletes.
